Can I still use it?
- Mainline Linux
- Supported[5]A device tree for this board is in the mainline kernel; features may still be missing.
- Zephyr RTOS
- Supported[3]
As published by each project, checked weekly. A platform not listed has no published information here, which is not the same as no support.

Gotchas
- Mainline support is still arriving. Many RK3588 features (video encode, NPU, some display paths) work best on Rockchip's vendor kernel; mainline Linux support has been landing release by release.[1]
- Fussy about USB-C chargers. Some PD chargers renegotiate or reset the board at boot; Radxa recommends tested supplies.[1]
History and use today
History
Radxa's ROCK 5B was among the first RK3588 boards in 2022, bringing eight cores and NVMe to the hobbyist SBC market.[1]
Still useful for
A strong home-server and NAS board where a Pi 5 runs out of RAM or I/O; check software support for the features you need.
