TinkerNews is a free weekly newsletter about DIY electronics. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. Write to info@tinkernews.com with any question or request.

The newsletter

When you subscribe, we send a confirmation email first, and store your email address only once you confirm, so we can send you the newsletter. If you never confirm, we keep nothing and do not write again.

Our email provider counts clicks on the links in each issue, so we can see which builds readers find useful. We do not track whether you open an email.

Every issue has a one-click unsubscribe link. After you unsubscribe we keep your address marked as unsubscribed, so you are never emailed by mistake. Ask us and we will delete it completely.

Project submissions and email

If you submit a project or write to us, we use your name, email address and message to review it and reply.

Analytics

We count visits in aggregate, to see which pages people read and where readers come from. We use Umami for this. It sets no cookies on your device and keeps no record of your IP address: your visit is counted as a page view with your country, device type, browser and the page you came from. It does not follow you across other websites. We honour your browser's Do Not Track setting, and pages whose addresses contain personal details, such as unsubscribe links, are never measured.

Because nothing is stored on your device, there is no cookie banner. If you used the site before October 2026 and accepted our earlier analytics cookies, they are removed when you next visit.

Who handles the data

  • Supabase stores subscriber details, in the European Union.
  • Resend delivers our emails, from the United States.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile checks that the subscribe and submit forms are used by a person, not a bot. It sees technical data such as your IP address and browser.
  • Fly.io hosts this website in the United States, and handles the technical data every website receives, such as your IP address.
  • Umami provides the analytics, and receives the technical data your browser sends with each request. It does not store your IP address.

We do not sell your details or share them with anyone else.

How long we keep it

Subscriber details are kept until you ask us to delete them. Analytics data is kept for at most six months. Emails are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your message.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the data we hold about you, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent at any time. We handle newsletter data with your consent, and analytics, hosting and replies to your messages because we need to run the site and answer you. If you think we have got something wrong, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
